Invisible Influence: The Hidden Forces that Shape Behavior

by Jonah Berger

For my second book, I chose to read Invisible Influence: The Hidden Forces that Shape Behavior by Jonah Berger. I picked this book from Yes! Magazine's article "The Science of Creating a Compassionate World". The first thing that attracted me to this book was the title as it piqued my interest. As Invisible Influence seems like something that could be a movie title. What ultimately made me go with this book was the short description of it given in the magazine article.

Right from the start this book mentions the potential of social influence and how much power it has over people. I found this really interesting the more I kept reading. I feel like most of us are aware of the power that social influence can have, but I was not aware of how high that power is. Berger states that "99.9% of all decisions are shaped by others". When I read that I was shocked I figured that it would be maximum 70-75% not almost 100%! Overall, this book seems like it will be a really good read and I am hoping to get a better understanding on how and why we as people make certain decisions.
